My life, in Office Space

<Movie Quote>
Bob Slydell: If you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

<My reality> (Me as Peter)
Bob Slydell: If you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least five minutes late, ah, I use the 'back' door - only because it's closer to my office. But it has the 'advantage' of not taking my past Lumbergh's office. After that I read/respond to emails, check LJ, and sorta space out until lunch.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? LJ? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I read the morning's comics, see what my friends are up to, and then do a combiation of stare at my desk and find something to research on the internet; switching to a SQL client or email client when I hear someone in the hallway. To the casual observer it looks like I'm working. Every now and then I'll engage in some Instant Messaging sessions; but since we use AIM at work that also can look like I'm working. Truthfully, I'd say that in a given day I probably only do about ten minutes of real, actual, work. But the fact of the matter is, for the other seven hours and forty-five minutes of the day I actually have -nothing- to work on.
</My reality>

Trying to find the Office Space script + giving up and using the IMDb quotes page + typing up the entry = 45 minutes.

That leaves 60 to go, and wow, I just got an email to which I replied in ~ 1 minute, and it even involved looking something up.

Two things about this entry:
1) Given the amount of work I actually do, I think that Columbia House is paying me the correct amount (given that for a week I actually had stuff to work on, so it all averages out to if I was working all the time they should be paying me at least twice what they are now -- yes, I feel I'm worth that much (no, not really, otherwise someone would be paying me that much))
2) I promise I won't do this every day. Today was just especially boring as I expected to have something on which to work and it has yet to materialize (I'm waiting on a data dump which I have the authorization to request, but not to do myself -- the person doing it asked me a question about it around an hour ago which made it clear that it had yet to be started.).
3) I think I need to get some headphones and start listening to music at work. That way I have something to let me know time is, in fact, passing.
